"California here we come..."

So after a month we decided it was time for us to let Susan have her house and life back. An opportunity presented itself to rent/housesitt for some friend's parents. They live in the San Diego area. Carson's dream has been to go to school for Gemology in Southern California. Our friends knew this, which is why they offered. So while in California for Brian's wedding Carson went to San Diego and got a job. We packed up quickly and headed out the middle of April. I have to tell you a story though. We were supposed to leave on a certain date and had to delay it one day because we got the both cars stuck in the mud. In the spring at Susan's house there is about 1 month where you cannot use the dirt driveway. When all of the snow melts the driveway turns to mud and after a couple weeks the ruts are so deep that you get stuck if you try to drive on them. Well guess what? That month happened to be in April! We, couldn't wait though. We had to be there on a certain date for his job. His brother Courtney came later and rescued us. So we planned to leave the next day. Then Carson had a run in with a ...well let me just quote the police officer first on the scene. "You're very lucky, normally when someone hits a moose we are not having this conversation!" Yep, he hit a moose. We have said many prayers of gratitude since. It was the night before we were to leave. (already a day late) He was on a highway going at least 60 mph and a moose crossed the road. He didn't see it at first, but all of a sudden saw its silhouette in the oncoming car's headlights. The moose came into his lane, realized it was not going to make it, turned to go back, stumbled and fell in Carson's lane. Carson would not be alive if he hadn't fallen. They are so tall that it would have crashed right through the windshield, landed in Carson's lap and.... well you know! So basically here's what happened next. The moose fell away from Carson and so the first thing Carson hit was it's legs and he must have hit them in such a way that they acted like a ramp because he JUMPED the moose!! He went straight up in the air and for a minute all he could see was stars! Then he came crashing down. Besides the fact that he was still alive, he and the cop were most surprised that the car still ran! You see he was driving his little tin can Geo Tracker! But it DID run and the next morning we made the 1500 mile trip to California in that very Tracker!

I was worried about crime and stories I had heard about California and well I was right. Our camera was stolen a few weeks after we moved! :( So all of the fun road trip pictures are gone! But I will put in pics of since we have moved here. What a great street name!! I like this place already.

We have gone to the beach on Carson's day off several times. It's so fun. Maddi loves it.

There is a nude beach up around this rocky cliff......so we've heard!

This is Seaport village.

It's a cute outdoor shopping center right on the San Diego Bay. For those of you who really know me know that I go there for the scenery and beauty not the shopping. I HATE shopping! But it has live bands and FUN people watching opportunities. It has a wooden carousel made in the 1800's. The horse's tails are made from actual hair. It's Maddi's favorite thing to do when we go. That and the ice cream store! Our favorite restaurant there has been converted from a dock to a restaurant!

But look at the view! One day I let Maddi bring her bike to Seaport Village to ride around. She had a blast! Here are pics of the pond and flowers.

On a totally random note, did I mention I had to get glasses? Yep, actually I cannot complain because they're just for reading and Carson thinks they're really cute so...

So Carson works at "Leo Hamel and company fine jewelry". He is a salesman and loves it there. They are one of the "big hitters" in this area as far as jewelry stores go. He was recently promoted to be the Solana Beach Store Manager. They love him there and visa versa. Leo Hamel himself wanted to have him be the manager. His only concern was how to tell the other employees who have been there 10-15 years! Carson had been there 2 months but they could see potential when they first hired him. Well, he had a really fun experience. His store is about 10 min away from the baseball stadium for the Padres. So in comes Ken Griffey Jr! Yes he was playing the Padres and Carson helped him. Carson's store didn't have the watch that "Ken" wanted. There were only 18 of this watch made in the whole world and it is worth $145,000. So instead he dropped $12,000 on matching watches for he and his wife. Sweet little millionaire. At the end after he and Carson were buddies he asked him for his autograph. It says "To Carson all my best, Love Ken Griffey Jr." Okay, so it doesn't really say "love"!

We live 15 minutes from Tijuana. We just got our passports so it would be a day trip to go! There are only 4 exits between us and the border. The second picture has a bull ring! Very cool. I took these pictures from Imperial beach, a city close to the border.

Well that's all folks! I promise to update you this week, cuz there's so much more to tell!
